What teachers say...
Thank you for coming in to provide Gymnastics INSET for all our staff. The two sessions you ran have given our teachers some fantastic ideas and the confidence to greatly improve the quality of Gymnastics teaching at our school. I look forward to working with you again in the future.

I strongly recommend Dan McCaffrey and Pioneer PE. As my individual skills coach in the run up to the Athens Paralympics, he was hugely influential in me reaching my full potential. Dan has a unique ability to make complex skills and techniques seem clear and logical.

Dan has enthused our entire school with his regular PE training. My staff feel much more confident in their teaching, and report significant improvement in children's ability. I urge you to book him early as he won't be free for long!

So, what persuades a slightly creaky middle-aged teacher with a tendency towards inertia decide that PE is more than just a way to tire out the class and avoid a pile of marking? - Dan McCaffrey's PE INSET.
Sessions are well paced and informative, allowing the competitive element to "out-Nike" each other, whilst leaving the terminally unfit to follow in a more sedentary manner while Dan displays his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things physical. He presents simple, adaptable relevant ideas with top tips on class management. His lesson plans are virtually idiot proof - and I would know!
Above all, sessions are FUN for all ages and stages. A brilliant model for motivating the stodgier element of any class.
Mr McCaffrey re-invigorates the parts that other PE teachers cannot reach.

Dan organised and led staff INSET sessions at St Giles. These sessions were extremely informative and linked well with the on going work in the school. He is an enthusiastic leader who motivated the teachers well. He involved a small group of pupils which enabled us to see his ideas work effectively in practice. I would recommend him for staff training.

Dan has helped me immeasurably in terms of my role as a Year 2 teacher and as the school's PE Co-ordinator. His INSET training has helped me to provide much more exciting and challenging PE lessons for my class, and his advice and guidance on my role as PE Co-ordinator has benefited the school as a whole.

Dan quickly established positive relationships with the children and staff at Lindfield. He is enthusiastic in his delivery of high quality PE teaching for all abilities, and provides support and guidance to staff for their PE lessons.

Feeling neither Outdoor nor Adventurous I wondered what moment of madness had nudged me into signing up for this February Inset activity. First day after half term, 7.30 am and...there was ice on the windscreen.
Dan coaxed us along gently, luring us with coffee and top quality biscuits until we found ourselves balancing precariously on a bench struggling to get ourselves in alphabetical order, height order, birth date order, whatever order (but not falling off!)... Boy had we bonded! What team work! We surfed the shark infested custard, cracked the crane game, everyone with a vital role to play in ensuring our success...and this was PE! It was never as fun as this when I was at school.
Before we knew it we were outside. How did that happen? Running like crazy around the playground to complete our orienteering challenge before anybody else (when did I get so competitive?) We soon realised that planning and strategy were the key to success. Dan stopped us often to review how we tackled each task (or was it to let us gasp for breath?).
A great day. Loads of ideas that even the least PE minded can manage. A range and variety of tasks to challenge every child - physically, mentally and socially.
The ‘speaking tool' was a great idea so that only one person in the team could speak at a time. I might try it at home.
Highly recommended.

Dan is one of the finest sports coaches and teachers I have ever worked with. His ability to engage and motivate children and adults alike is truly exceptional. His work ethic is outstanding and his professionalism and attention to detail in delivering excellence in his sessions is of the highest quality.

The children have really benefited from having Dan teach their PE, as he makes lessons challenging and exciting. I was particularly impressed with his teaching of dance to my year six children. By the end of the unit of work, he had even the most reluctant dancers enjoying their performances and feeling pleased with their achievements.

Dan led two very successful Let Me Play Basketball Camps for me. His knowledge of sport together with his professionalism, leadership and reliability were the reasons I used him. Dan's ability to teach children and build good rapport was the reason the camps had such a positive vibe.

It's been great having Dan come into the school. He has brought some fresh ideas and is encouraging us to try out new teaching methods.

I just thought I would let you know that PE is definitely the area where I struggle, mainly due to lack of confidence in subject knowledge. However, after the INSET twilights we had with you, I have taught two gym lessons and feel so much better. I am feeling confident, I know what to do and where I am going with things. Just knowing how to organise the children when taking out equipment made a huge difference.
So thank you and I am really looking forwards to teaching dance next term. Everything you gave us can easily be transferred to our year groups and incorporated in a cross curricular way. So thank you very much indeed!

I really enjoyed the twilight sessions. They gave me confidence to start a unit of dance and some great ideas that can be used across the age phases. Some ideas I already utilise so it encouraged me to continue good practice but other ideas like creating a stimulus through a child's game (pirate ships) worked really well with the children as they could really relate to it.

Just a note to say thank you very much for the staff meetings on PE and dance - they were very informative, fun and have given me lots of ideas to use in my teaching. Many thanks.
