Welcome to Pioneer PE

Welcome to a typical day on activity camp...

Settling In

Settling In

A day on camp starts with the kids arriving and diving straight into their choice of activity...Some choose to create Lego masterpieces, while others choose to draw or colour in.  There's always a game of Top Trumps going on, as well as the (now) mandatory challenges to the teachers over who can win at Connect 4!

Meanwhile some children are creating works of play dough art, or pitting their wits against another camper in a game of Guess Who.  We always have jigsaws on the go and the Staff are always around to help children settle in.  At 9am we have our Daily Housekeeping - where the loos are, what to do in the event of a fire etc, as well as a daily reminder of our behaviour expectations.  This helps the kids settle in and sets the tone for the day.

Next up... The Wacky Warm Up!

Oooga Chaka!

Each Camp Leader brings their own style to the Wacky Warm Up, but it's widely accepted that Mr McCaffrey's warm up is the wackiest....

From strangest walking competitions to waking up the Gods of Rock... and running like a Scooby-doo bad guy (that really has to be seen to be believed - Ed) to doing the foot stomp to the Rocky theme tune... and not forgetting the mighty "Ooga-Chakas", the Wacky Warm Up puts a smile on everyones faces, gets the blood pumping and sets up another day of camp!

Thrilling Games & Awesome Art

Arts & Crafts

After the excitement of the Wacky Warm Up, the kids split into their chosen activities and get stuck into some thrilling games or awesome art.  The children in Reception, Years 1 & 2 are divided into mini-groups to take part in our "Activity Carousel", providing them with 40 minute sessions in a variety of sports, art, adventure games and much more.

Meanwhile the kids in Years 3 - 6 split into Sports and Arts groups. Whilst the "Sporties" are "Capturing the cones", playing "Dodgeball" or "4-way cricket" or hiding round the corner in a massive game of "Hide and seek", the "Arties" are busy decorating door hangers, making and painting salt-dough models or painting great masterpieces.

Break Time

Lunch Time

Break time arrives and it's a chance for the kids to play with their new found friends.  They can play football or adventure games, relax with a book or play board games - anything they like. We believe that breaks provide kids with much needed "social play" with children of different ages and backgrounds.  At the end of break the kids head back to their activities for a new game or art activity.

"Lunch is a sociable activity!"  One of our many mottos on camp, kids are encouraged to talk to all the children around them (not just their friends) and wait until everyone has finished on their table until packing away.  We find this is often where kids get to make new friends and discuss their morning's work.

Afternoon campers arrive and those here only for the morning go home, and then it's out for lunch play - more of the same from the morning, plus an occasional sing along if Mr McCaffrey has his guitar!

Afternoon

Dodgeball

The afternoon session begins with a reminder of the rules and behavioural expectations, and dividing into activity groups.  Then it's off for more exciting games and adventures in sports, or new activities in Arts and Crafts.

The afternoon session continues through until around 3pm, with another short break to stretch the legs and run off lunch, before the Dodgeball Classic begins!  Our daily dose of Dodgeball allows the kids one last burst of energy and excitement as they battle each other and the teachers to be crowned Dodgeball Champions!!

Time To Go Home..

Home time

Our day ends at 3.55pm, with the award of Camper of the Day and gathering belongings.  Children can then choose from a range of quiet activities, ensuring they are calm and relaxed when Mum or Dad arrives.

Parents arrive between 4 - 4.45pm, and collect some very tired but very happy campers!
